License compatibility

Versions before v3.0

Alpana v1 and v2 licensing is not compatible with current v3 licensing.
When needing to upgrade from v1 or v2, please contact your Distributor to get a v3 license.

Versions since v3.0

A license activation is only valid for the same major version.
If the upgrade involves a change in major version, then the license needs to be fully activated again, and you will need to submit again a license file and do a full activation.

In order to fix this, please make sure you still are under a support contract, and contact your support to get an Activation for the new version.

Alpana versioning : what is a major version

Initially, Alpana used a version number like v3.2.3.3.
For those versions :

  • the major version corresponds to the first 2 digits of the version number. Example : v3.2 is the major version for version v3.2.3.3
  • the minor version corresponds to the last 2 digits of the version number. Example : .0.7 is the minor version for version v3.1.0.7

After version v3.2.3.3, and since Alpana version 2020 R1, a new versioning scheme is used :

  • the major version corresponds to the “year” part of the version number. Example : 2020 is the major version for version 2020 R1
  • the minor version corresponds to the “R” part of the version number. Example : R2 SP1 would be the minor version for version 2020 R2 SP1
Major Full
3.0 v3.0.1.1
3.0 v3.0.2.2
3.1 v3.1.0.7
3.1 v3.1.2.1
3.2 v3.2.1.5
3.2 v3.2.2.10
3.2 v3.2.3.3
3.3 (2020) v3.3.0.25 (2020 R1)
3.3 (2020) v3.3.1.17 (2020 R2)

A major upgrade happens when the upgrade involves a change in major version.

Example : from 2020 R1 to 2020 R2 SP1, the license is still valid because you’re still in version 2020. You don’t need to activate your license again. It works normally following the upgrade.
Example : from 2020 R2 to 2021 R1, the license is not valid anymore because you upgrade from version 2020 to version 2021. You will need to activate your license again.
Example : from v3.2.3.3 to 2020 R1, the license is not valid anymore because you upgrade from previous version v3.2 to version 2020. You will need to activate your license again.
