Introduction : limits of applicability
This procedure only applies if you are upgrading from Alpana Server v3.0 or newer.
Upgrading from older versions requires manual steps detailed elsewhere.
Some v3 upgrades may still require specific attention or manual steps. Please read the corresponding release notes.
Upgrading Alpana Designer
Upgrading Alpana Designer is straightforward :
- Un-install any previous version of Alpana Designer.
- Run the new installer
Upgrading Alpana Server
To upgrade Alpana Server to a newer version, please follow the below procedure.
1. Backup
You must make sure you have all information to install again :
Folder path to the website
Note the current folder path of the installation.
Network configuration
Note the DNS or IP addresses and ports of Frontend and Backend
If you used HTTPS, gather all required SSL information.
SQL database connection
The upgrade will ask again for credentials to let Alpana access its SQL database.
Check that you have all the required information.
Other IIS configuration
If you tinkered with the IIS configuration manually, you must also back it up, as you will have to re-create it.
(optional) Application backup
As with any maintenance operation, you may wish to do a backup before the upgrade.
2. Read about the upgrade
Read the corresponding Release Notes
Make sure your license will allow the upgrade : read the chapter License incompatibility for Major upgrades.
3. Un-install
Use Windows Control Panel to un-install previous versions of Alpana Server and Designer.
4. Pre-Requisites
Make sure you still meet the new Pre-Requisites (they may change for the newer version).
For instance, you may need to upgrade Asp.NET Core to the newer version.
5. Install
Run the new installers and perform the installation procedures again for Alpana Server and Alpana Designer.
